Request a metal roof estimate in North Carolina.
Metal Roof NC measures and inspects your roof and gives you a project-specific estimate before work begins. Hurricane wind, salt air, summer heat and Piedmont storms are hard on asphalt roofs here, which is why it is worth planning properly.

What the estimate covers
- A project-specific estimate in writing, before work begins
- Your profile and color options talked through against your actual house
- A look at the deck, the attic ventilation and the flashings, so the estimate covers the whole roof assembly
- What has to come off, and whether a single layer of asphalt can stay (only if the inspection finds it suitable and the local code allows it)
- On the coast: flashings, trim and edges checked as part of the roof, because salt air finds anything that can rust
- In an HOA: samples and product documents for your architectural review application
- The Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty and the Metal Roof NC 5-Year Labor Warranty explained, exclusions included
- Financing through Service Finance for qualified homeowners, if you want it (subject to lender approval and terms)

What is North Carolina's Best Roof?
North Carolina's Best Roof is the name of this website, run by Metal Roof NC. It explains the Interlock aluminum roofing system and how it is installed in North Carolina.
Who makes the Interlock roof?
Interlock Roofing manufactures the Interlock aluminum roofing system, made in North America. Metal Roof NC is an authorized Interlock dealer, not the manufacturer.
What does Metal Roof NC install?
Interlock aluminum roofing in Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam profiles, plus Solid Copper; standing seam metal roofing; Interlock aluminum wall cladding and metal siding; and conventional asphalt-shingle replacement, for residential homeowners.
Which Interlock roof profiles can I choose from?
Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam, plus Solid Copper. The shingle-style profiles give the look of slate, cedar or tile in heavy-gauge aluminum.
What colors does the Interlock roof come in?
Solid Copper, Copper Penny, Hunter Green, Black, Deep Charcoal, Musket Grey, Tile Red, Colonial Brown, Tudor Brown and Sierra Tan. See samples in daylight before you choose, and check your HOA's rules first.
Why aluminum instead of steel?
Aluminum does not rust, so it is corrosion-resistant in coastal salt air and humid summers where a scratched steel panel can rust. The Interlock roof is about 98% heavy-gauge aluminum, with panels that interlock on four sides and concealed fasteners.
How heavy is an Interlock aluminum roof?
Roughly 0.4 to 0.7 lb per square foot, depending on profile: a fraction of the weight of natural slate or concrete tile.
What roof slope does an Interlock roof need?
A minimum 3/12 slope for every profile. Lower-slope sections need a different roofing system.
Will the color fade?
The Alunar® finish is a PVDF coating system designed and tested to meet AAMA 2605, and the Guardian warranty covers chalking and fading beyond stated limits for 30 years.
Do you install aluminum siding too?
Yes. Metal Roof NC installs Interlock aluminum wall cladding and metal siding, which carries a transferable 50-year limited warranty.
How does an Interlock roof hold up in a North Carolina hurricane?
The panels interlock on four sides with concealed fasteners, leaving wind little to lift, and wind resistance is warranted to 120 mph when installed to manufacturer specification. No roof can be made immune to hurricanes; deck attachment, edges and the design wind speed for your address matter as much as the panel.
Is a metal roof a good choice near the North Carolina coast?
Aluminum is a good fit for salt air because it does not rust. Coastal design wind speeds in the NC Residential Code can be higher than inland, so the permit office or engineer sets the fastening requirement for a coastal house.
Does an Interlock roof stand up to Piedmont hail?
Interlock aluminum roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating under the Delta Building Products listing, tested by Intertek. The rating does not apply to every profile, so ask which profiles the listing covers before you rely on it.
Is a metal roof hot in a North Carolina summer?
The Alunar® colors are CRRC-rated, meaning their solar reflectance and emittance are tested and published. Lighter colors generally reflect more sun. Attic ventilation and insulation matter as much as the roof color.
What happens to an Interlock roof in a Piedmont ice storm?
Metal sheds ice and snow, so plan where it will slide off over entries, walkways and decks. Snow guards can be added where needed; ask about them with your estimate.
Do pine needles and leaves hurt a metal roof?
They don't hurt the aluminum, but they hold moisture and block gutters and valleys. Have gutters cleaned yearly and remove branches and debris promptly, as the Guardian warranty's care section advises.
Is an Interlock roof fire rated?
Class A Fire Rated Available. When installed with two layers of GAF VersaShield® underlayment over a 15/32-inch plywood deck, the Interlock roof assembly can achieve a Class A fire rating (ASTM E108 / UL 790).
Is a metal roof fireproof?
No roof makes a house fireproof. Aluminum does not ignite, and a Class A assembly takes away the largest target on the house, but clear gutters and screened vents still matter.
What warranties come with an Interlock roof in North Carolina?
Two. The Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty from Interlock Roofing covers material and finish, and the Metal Roof NC 5-Year Labor Warranty covers workmanship. The full terms of both come in writing.
What does lifetime mean in the Guardian warranty?
It covers the original purchaser while they own the home. It is a limited warranty, transferable once: the second owner is covered to 50 years from substantial completion. The Alunar® coating is warranted 30 years, and workmanship is excluded.
Does the roof warranty cover hurricane damage?
No. The Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty covers manufacturing defects and excludes severe weather events. Storm damage is a homeowners-insurance matter.
What does the Metal Roof NC 5-Year Labor Warranty cover?
Workmanship of the installation, for five years. The full terms are provided in writing with the contract.
Can a metal roof go over my existing shingles?
Sometimes. A single layer of asphalt may be roofed over only if an inspection finds it suitable and the local code allows it. Cedar shingles and shakes, concrete or clay tile and natural slate always come off.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in North Carolina?
Often not for a straight re-roof of a single-family home costing $40,000 or less, under G.S. 160D-1110(c); the State Fire Marshal's office reads that exemption as covering the roofing and up to 15% of the roof deck. Larger jobs or structural work can require one; your inspections department decides.
When is the best time to replace a roof in North Carolina?
Before hurricane season if you can. The season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10, so plan in winter or spring. A failing roof shouldn't wait.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the roof's size and pitch, the layers coming off, deck repairs, access, any approvals and the weather. You get an estimated install window with your estimate.
What maintenance does an aluminum roof need?
Very little: clean the gutters once a year, remove branches and debris promptly, and rinse off dirt from the ground with a hose and a well-diluted, non-abrasive detergent. Hire a professional for anything that needs someone on the roof.
Can moss or mildew grow on a metal roof?
Dirt and mildew can collect on any roof, depending on shade, slope and humidity. Rinse it from the ground with a hose, diluted detergent and a long-handled soft brush.
Does my HOA have to approve a metal roof?
Often. Many subdivisions in the Triangle and around Charlotte have an architectural review committee that approves roof material and color. Get the decision in writing before you sign; we provide product sheets and color samples for the submission.
Can a townhouse get an Interlock roof?
Usually yes, if the association approves and the roof meets the 3/12 minimum slope. Shared roofs need a plan for where the new roof meets the neighbor's, so bring the association in early.
Will a metal roof lower my homeowners insurance?
Ask your insurer, because each sets its own rules. The NC Department of Insurance says a FORTIFIED Roof earns insurance credits that reduce premiums; the amount depends on your insurer, location and level of protection.
Are there grants for stronger roofs in North Carolina?
The NC Insurance Underwriting Association has run Strengthen Your Roof grant programs for eligible NCIUA policyholders in coastal counties, for FORTIFIED Roof upgrades. Programs open and close, so check current terms with NCIUA before signing.
Does an Interlock roof help when I sell my home?
The Guardian warranty transfers once to the next owner, covering them to 50 years from substantial completion, which is something you can show a buyer. Keep the warranty and installation documents with your house records.
