Metal roof warranties on every Interlock roof in NC

Two warranties: one from the manufacturer, Interlock Roofing, for the material, and one from Metal Roof NC for the installation. What each covers, how long it lasts and who to call.

The material

Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty

Issued by the manufacturer, Interlock Roofing

  • Covers the aluminum roofing material and its factory finish against manufacturing defects, subject to the exclusions in the document.
  • Runs for as long as the original purchaser owns the home.
  • Transfers once, to the next registered owner, with coverage to 50 years from the substantial completion date.
  • The Alunar® finish is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading beyond stated limits.
  • Report a claim in writing within 30 days of the issue becoming known.
  • Does not cover installation workmanship, and excludes severe weather events.

The installation

  • Covers the workmanship of your Interlock roof installation.
  • Runs for five years.

What warranties come with an Interlock roof in North Carolina?

Two. The manufacturer, Interlock Roofing, gives the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty on the aluminum material and its factory finish. The installer, Metal Roof NC, gives the Metal Roof NC 5-Year Labor Warranty on workmanship. They are separate documents with separate terms.

What does "lifetime" mean in the Guardian warranty?

For the original purchaser while they own the home on which the roof was installed and remain its registered owner. It is the purchaser's ownership, not the life of the house, and it is a limited warranty: the document sets out what is covered and what is excluded.

Can I transfer the warranty if I sell my home?

The Guardian material warranty transfers once, to the first subsequent registered owner, who receives coverage to 50 years from the substantial completion date. The new owner sends proof of purchase to the manufacturer within 60 days of the change of ownership with a $300 transfer fee.

Does the Guardian warranty cover hail?

It covers splitting, cracking and perforation of the panels from hailstones 1.5 inches in diameter or less. Other hail damage, such as cosmetic dents, is excluded, along with severe weather events and the other exclusions listed in the document.

Does the warranty cover hurricane damage?

No. The Guardian warranty excludes severe weather events and Acts of God. Storm damage is a homeowners-insurance matter; keep your installation documents for your insurer.

What does the Metal Roof NC 5-Year Labor Warranty cover?

Workmanship of the installation, for five years. The full terms are provided in writing with your contract.

Which warranty do I use for a leak?

If the problem is in how the roof was installed, such as flashings, trim or a detail, it is a workmanship matter for Metal Roof NC. If the problem is a defect in the panels or their finish, it is a Guardian matter for the manufacturer. If you are not sure, call us first and we will tell you which applies.
